The hypocrite is more guilty than other men because he shows that he knows that what he does is wrong, and yet presses ahead regardless. He has divided life into what people can see, and what they cannot see, and he is very careful to keep the two apart.
How should we deal with the weed of hypocrisy, if we detect it starting to grow in the garden of our hearts? We should root it out immediately and not allow it to grow. We may not be able to completely remove the root, for it may break off and not come out of the soil cleanly, and therefore come up again later, but we must do our utmost to remove it. It is a very vigorous weed which strangles the life out of anything good that may be growing. It is relatively easy to deal with if caught early, but becomes entangled with much that is good if left.
