With hypocrisy comes spiritual blindness. The hypocrite spends so much time focusing on the externals, which he wants others to see, that he loses track of the real value of things.
We must ask ourselves, where does real power and significance come from? The measure of what has value is seen in what endures to eternity. Even some of the things that God has given us in this life will not last forever. Even something as wonderful as the Lord’s Supper is only intended to last ‘till he come’. It is a remembrance of the redemptive work of Christ which will have eternal effect. Marriage is for this world and in heaven we will be as the angels of God. It is a picture of Christ and his church. We are to hold most strongly onto those things which will never pass away. On these things we will never need to change our grip.
