Christ delights to welcome each one of his servants into his eternal kingdom, to share in the joys given to him by his heavenly Father. These things he has inherited as the God-Man, who has obeyed all his Father’s commands and fulfilled all his Father’s will. To him it is a reward that he has earned, but his joy is not complete until he has given something of this to be shared with his disciples. He is not happy simply to experience this joy alone. Such is his benevolence that his joy is greatly increased by seeing the same joy in his disciples. And he will share it with them according to their faithfulness in this life. The joy of Christ is the joy that enabled him to endure the cross, and the same joy will enable us to endure hardship in this world for his sake.
