Who would follow Christ at once like this without having caught sight of his glory? If he wants us to be with him and to serve him in a special way, do we see the privilege of such a call and respond to it with alacrity? This is going to have consequences for time and eternity. This is going to bring joys and rewards which we cannot yet see clearly, but of which we have some foretaste by the Spirit. His glory cannot disappoint. Love does not fear that its object will be exhausted. The one who has come to know Jesus Christ has already seen the sparking jewels of his attributes, and along with these he has seen the promise of an endless future supply of such treasures. How much more wonderful are spiritual treasures which are true and cannot pass away than anything that belongs to this world.
