Is the heart some private, inner room, in which we can conduct ourselves in secret, away from the eyes of man and of God? Can we obey the commandments at the external level, and no one know that we also break them in another place where we think that no one can see? Can we successfully hide our hypocrisy? We can be away from the eyes of man, yes, but not of God. Purity of heart is what God requires, and if anything the real person is what goes on in the heart, not what goes on in the outward man.
In this world the body is paraded continually. We have to be so careful about images that come to us through the media, through the TV. Do we want our children to grow up as adulterers? Then don’t expose them to these things; don’t turn the TV on all day: you may as well throw them into hell. The world thinks nothing of undressing people in the mind. Not only is it vile and all true things are swept away, but the minds of children are poisoned. I watched a young man on a I was travelling on, and I saw his head turned continually following every female that passed him, in an almost perverted way; there was no restraint, not self-control.
