When we judge others for doing the very things that we do, we judge ourselves, and God will complete our judging for us by bringing down upon us the sanction that we assign to others. An over critical person in human arena is judged and particularly with God who judges our hypocrisy.
We please God by dissolving away the hypocrisy. We also make ourselves more acceptable to the person we set out to reprove. If we come as haughty, it will be impossible to be received. Repentance of hypocrisy also gets things in proportion. The Lord is not saying never seek to notice a fault, but get it in proportion. We are under God’s judgement. Maybe you have some wrongs to confess: confess them first. James tells us to confess to one another. This does not mean we confess not everything, as if to priests, but we confess specific offences to each other. If we have our mind on our own failings, then we will be less likely to have a critical spirit.
