This a most remarkable answer, and a very personal expression of this man’s faith. He speaks in unique terms found nowhere else in Scripture, but in words which express precisely what he understands Christ’s authority to be.
We cannot fake faith, but if we have been given faith, we should express it in all its beauty. As we do, we know that it is something highly valued by the Lord. It is the gift of the Spirit and is a clear indication that God is at work within our hearts. Faith really is not something complicated. It has a very simple object – the person of Christ. Love and hope are also focused on him. As faith reasons, it is able to draw out many implications of his power and authority, and to understand the operation of his kingdom on the basis of the character of the King.
