As soon as he touched them and spoke these words, they found they could see again. Their own senses confirmed the miracle to them.
Conversion to God brings its own assurance. The new disciple finds he is able to do what he could not do before, and he knows that it is Christ who has brought about the change in him. Life has now come into perspective. He sees the brevity of this life and its relative unimportance compared to eternity. He sees that Christ is risen from the dead, and God is going to judge the world. He sees God’s people are very different from the people of the world, and there are only two classes of people that matter. The whole world in in the hands of the evil one and is doing his bidding. It is a world that is in darkness and does not know where it is going. By contrast he sees that God’s people walk through the world with understanding, following their Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Scripture records these two things: that Christ strictly charged them not to speak of these things and that they ignored his command and went and spoke anyway. They thought they knew better than he did what was needed. Did that disrupt God’s plan? Did it through it off course? No, for God’s plan takes into account our disobedience also. In a mysterious way he takes all things into account. His revealed will tells us plainly what we should do, but his secret will takes account of what he knows we are going to do, even our sins (Acts 2:23).
