‘There is one come out to thee’ – all the commentators think that this refers to Sennacherib. The invasion of Judah by Sennacherib took place in the year 701 BC – ‘that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor.
Are we suffering under the yoke of another, who is opposed to the Lord and takes vengeance on his people out of spite towards God? He sees it all, and he knows what we are going through. He loves his people when they are ready to suffer for his name’s sake. He knows how weak we are, and that our willingness to suffer, while we look to him for deliverance, is done to please him. How can he turn his back on us in this situation? Ultimately, how can he fail to take revenge on those who hurt us?
