Assyria is addressed again. The Assyrians were tremendous with monuments; we know that now. So many have been excavated, huge monuments, all carefully inscribed with the names of their conquerors and their emperors. They thought their dynasties and their names would last forever, but they were thrown down and buried in the sand for centuries. They were obliterated from view. People even doubted they had ever existed, until the archaeologists got to work in the early nineteenth century and the great procession of excavations began.
