Proverbs 1:1

The Book of Proverbs is mostly by Solomon, who, as Scripture tells us, was given special wisdom by God. He may not be the only author of the book, because as you get towards the end of the book other names are mentioned, other credits given. How these proverbs came about is an open question, but these may be aliases used by Solomon for literary purposes. Clearly, the writer was working under the direct inspiration of the Spirit of God but many of these proverbs would have been already known to the people of God. Solomon was personally very wayward. He was the richest man of his day, a man with unbounded abilities, he himself lived wickedly for part of his life, though he was later restored, as he tells in the book of Ecclesiastes.
