Proverbs 1:9

The picture could be of a warrior king, who has successfully defended his realm and been given a garland as an ornament on his head. You can see he is approved. The promise is that if any person value the teaching of God and never leaves it but embraces it, that person will be attested by the highest authority – God. ‘Chains’ does not sound very nice in the Authorised Version, but it does not literally mean chains; it means adornments, necklaces, something like that. In other words, a grasp of the past, a working knowledge of all the grand principles that have been proven in every day and age will greatly beautify anybody and add to him. It is a visible token of grace.
Application
Oh, if I could have judgment, if I could learn to handle knowledge. Why, if I could know how to take knowledge and apply it, whatever my calling, whatever my situation as a Christian, if I could know how to deal wisely with all family issues, with all church issues, this wisdom, this depth, this insight; if I could never be taken for a ride by the enemy of souls, by people around me, because I have this depth and insight.
