To what do we commit ourselves and our energies and resources? This is not a new picture; it is the picture of the young husband and the tender bride. He has inherited his small holding and he is bringing up his small children.
Some come to church only on a Sunday morning. Well, what is wrong with that? Do you really think you are Christian believers? Do you really think God has brought about this tremendous, transforming work in you which makes you his, and yet it has not made any difference to you, because all you can spare for the Lord is one service in a week! You don't come out to support the Gospel Service, the preaching of the gospel among unbelievers, and you do not come to study his word mid-week at the Bible Study. Truly converted people would worship morning, evening, afternoon seven days a week if they could, if they didn't have to earn their living, if they didn't have to pursue their responsibilities in the world. Let me tell you with all the kindness I can muster, you need to come to Christ truly.
But let's apply this to Christian people. Maybe you are truly converted, you do love the Lord, you have got the life of God in you and yet you don't steward, you don't have an avenue of service, you are not one of these people who goes through your life thinking - What can I more do for the Lord with my income and my wealth. I should support this and support that. I should speak for Christ and I should regulate my life and pray and work for holiness and serve God. This is the meaning of the parable. It is not just to do with whether you will stand behind somebody else's loan. There is a spiritual application. He who will invest himself in things other than the Lord, well, it is either a sign of no real conversion or of a very poor and backslidden Christian life which will not gain the blessings of God.
