Now look at a very interesting aspect of integrity in verse 2. One of the wonderful things about Solomon's dealing with this subject in the book of Proverbs is that he almost never takes the predictable route.
You get this pride, this smouldering, seething form of pride and immediately we become ungrateful for the position, whatever it might be, that we do have. We become uncooperative because we sullenly think we should have much more. We become insulting and we become very independent minded and no good at team work. But those who have a low view of themselves – not artificially so, but keeping their weaknesses in view – they realise that we are all members of a team, we need each other and, most of all, we constantly need the help of God.
