A generous soul does not hold back when he sees others in need, even though it costs him to provide for them. He lives his life in the sight of God who he knows delights to see kindness in his children and forgets nothing that they do. The generous man gives not because it is his duty to give, not to be seen by men to give (he prefers to give in secret) but because he loves to give. He thanks the Lord that he has been given enough for his own essential needs and to supply the needs of others. All that he possesses has been given to him to do good; he cannot by giving generously put the God of all bounty into his debt. The Lord delights to bless his creatures even with the good things of this world, though he measures his gifts by his perfect knowledge of each individual believer according to his infinite wisdom. So often riches are a snare to those who receive them and they make idols of them, but there are none that God can give to more safely than to those who are generous. One who waters others will be watered himself, for providence is never off duty. Kindness and thoughtfulness are beautiful things in the eyes of God. Not the smallest act of kindness done in the name of Christ out of a sincere heart can go unnoticed.
