Proverbs 11:6

The thought is similar to the previous verse, though with particular attention to the danger of being caught in our own sins. Sin is of course a trap and a very effective one. The devil represents it to us as something most desirable, and he is able to convince the unfaithful that they cannot be happy without the gratification of their lusts. Those who yield to his suggestions are unable to break free, and become slaves of their lusts which are busy suggesting ever new means of gratification. The idea of not continuing to have these sinful pleasures is so appalling that the unbeliever is unable to turn away from them. But the righteous are delivered from this awful situation. Their righteousness warns them not to approach near to sin and they do not therefore come under its powerful influence. Whenever it presents its options to them, they immediately put them to death with as much vigour as they can.
