The idea is obviously of a harvest, the works of a man's hands and the words of his mouth, too, are described as fruit. It is a harvest picture in both sides of this little parable.
Words of counsel and helpfulness bring a harvest of appreciation and cause people to be settled and established around us. Words of kindness and encouragement bring a harvest too. Words of honesty and fairness bring a harvest in the world of integrity and reputation and appreciation of character. Words of apology bring a harvest of respect and peace-making and so on. There is a tremendous harvest in words and you have got to look at them like that. Solomon is preparing us to take a deeper and a more worthy view of the ministry of language and of our words, the stewardship of words.
