The word used here for evil is literally the word to pant, to breathe very heavily and rapidly. In its usage in the Bible it indicates exhaustion, deep distress and mourning.
Are we the kind of believers of whom this is true? We are the Lord’s and nothing will finally harm us, but to hear us speak you would think we had the sorrows of three lifetimes all the time. Even in our families, what a terrible thing if our children grow up thinking their parents have so many sorrows, things they are always talking about or moaning about, because they get things out of proportion. Our words completely belie what is spiritually true of us. We should not be speaking much about our pains, and our problems, and our difficulties. We should be praying about them, and getting them into perspective. Then all that happens to us becomes a source of testimony.
