Talk is cheap and there are those who learn to use their tongues to pretend to be what they are not. They have enough understanding to know what they should be, and they see that they will win respect in certain quarters by putting on a show, so they simulate wisdom, or learning, or experience that they do not have.
There should be no airs and graces on the lips of believers. Genuineness is the standard among the people of God. It is a foolish thing when someone who has no education tries to make out he has. Let each one be natural and be content with how God has made us. Away with all pretence, and judging ourselves by the standards which are admired by men. Each of us has enough to thank God for without pretending to have what he has not given us. This does not mean that we cannot try to improve our situation; we should act responsibly in life and make good those effects of sin in our past that have caused us loss, but what we really value is salvation and reconciliation with God through Christ. Other earthly distinctions are part of the providence of God in our lives which we should accept with contentment.
Believers must at all times remember that they are sons or daughters of the King of kings and the honour of Christ is reflected in how they conduct themselves in the world. Their speech will rightly be judged as a mark of what they are for it comes from the heart. They must speak of high and holy things with care and due reverence, not flippantly or lightly as if they set no value on them. By our words we will be justified, says Christ, and by our words we will be condemned (Matthew 12:37), for our words are the overflow of what is in our hearts, and a sample therefore of what is within.
