James says, ‘Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath’ (James 1:19), but this person is swift to speak and slow to hear. The picture is of someone having a discussion, or an argument, or dealing with a complaint.
We can imagine parents who may be impatient and not listen to their child and therefore answer the child’s case without really hearing it out. The parent runs the risk in the eyes of the child of being unfair or superficial or never understanding. So the parent is acting in a silly manner and is being measured by his child, and coming across as being inadequate.
