Proverbs 2:13

He deliberately avoids an honest presentation of his goods and anything that would expose him. Watch out for mental deception. This world away from God is full of mental deception. There is progressive wickedness; he gets worse and worse; he walks in the ways of darkness. Such a car salesman trades in trouble so that he can get something from you. He doesn’t care if it gives you misery and you part with your money for something that is essentially worthless. As long as the world gets our applause or our support, it doesn’t care what happens to us. Furthermore, he enjoys fooling people. He gets together with others of his type and they swap anecdotes about how they managed to sell old heaps to the unsuspecting, how they covered up the blemishes and used various tricks to fool the gullible buyer. What does he care if the new owner discovers what a pile of junk he has bought? It is too late then; the seller is not going to take it back.
Application
And the lesson is, don’t be taken in by what the world has to offer. It does not tell you that you are paying a terrible price for what you get from it, that you are paying for the passing pleasures of sin which are for a moment with your eternal soul. Don’t listen to things contrary to the Christian faith. The world is full of gossip and smut and rubbish.
