‘For her house inclineth unto death’, which means literally, it is built on a slope, it is built on the edge of a cliff, it is built on some place where a landslip is occurring, slowly, and soon it will suddenly collapse. ‘And her paths unto the dead’ – her paths go down the steep cliff edge, that is the picture.
Application
Lawlessness is a destroyer. Once you cut loose from the standards of God, once you cut loose from absolute moral standards, you are on a downward path, you will not be able to control yourself. It is a fact: people are tempted these days, in these dangerous days, into believing there is no God, there are no absolute standards set by God, that is a tremendously steep path. They will do anything within no time. Is it surprising that nowadays we have reported the most horrific and vile sins, occurring in so many families on every hand. Lawlessness – the cutting off of any duty to God, any fear of God, any awareness that there are absolute standards of right and wrong – is a steep downward path.
