‘If thou criest’ – this is about the young child who asks earnestly. The junior asks from a senior. One who does not have asks from one who does have. But the child is best picture. A child can’t secure it for himself. I need Christ; I need him to give me life, or, I need more knowledge as a Christian.We hear some who say, ‘I go to God, and say to him “Show me if you are really there, God.”’ Very cocksure! No, it is the crying of a child; we have that perspective. Then we truly cry out. ‘Liftest up thy voice’. The child can see the parent but cries out nevertheless, because to the child the request is urgent. Yes, but this is more urgent still; now you need a rescue from far away. God is at a great distance. We are far from God if we are unsaved. So it is almost a top of the voice cry. You don’t tell him, ‘I am quite a decent person.’ You come with a sense of your great predicament.
