Proverbs 2:4

‘If thou seekest’ – the Hebrew is about looking for what you don’t possess. ‘Search’ – look for what is hidden, which will cost me more effort. This is about salvation, wisdom, divine knowledge. I want to be introduced to a whole new view of life. A wealthy man might say, ‘I want some of these items so I will go to the merchants.’ You must seek God with this attitude: that you are searching for something of greatest possible value to you. This is higher than academic qualifications, or achievements. These are the greatest blessings ever. When you come searching like this you will find. All this also applies to those seeking to make progress in the Christian life – ‘search as for hid treasures.’ It is a picture of mining. It involves hard, dirty work. Minerals are found deep in the earth. They are unseen at the moment and you have got to unearth them. ‘Lord I repent; reveal yourself to me.’ This is an unseen blessing.
Application
You must come and say, ‘I am shut out until I find you; I haven’t made the great discovery yet. May I find you, hold you.’ You have to persevere. This is the harder side of seeking the Lord. The tempter comes and says, get out of that mine; stop searching for what you are never going to find. He does not play fair for a moment, but uses every lie available to him to discourage you. Yes, you struggle with doubts, dangers, and you may lose friends and other things. We say, I mean business. I’m going to take those minor knocks.
The child of God faces the same discouragement. He must also set distractions aside and say, the TV will not distract me by taking all my attention. I am searching for the deeper things.
