We must also think about the outworking of strategy, about keeping key positions, setting a guard on the weakest points. Suppose you are a defender under attack, and you have to set the evening guard around the city.
We need to guard key positions – our wants, our desires. The key questions we need to ask are: ‘Is it necessary? Is it appropriate for me as a Christian? Is it too much? Is it for self-aggrandisement? Will it be a snare to others? Will it injure my Christian service? Is it really for the Lord?’ Set a guard on what you want and ask the questions. They are sentries to protect you. ‘Is it honest? Is it kind? Is it edifying?’ Put guards on appetites and words and that will guard you from falls and it will promote such good.
