This seems to be just a statement and this is about fleeing superiority. The great enemy of everyone, every Christian, every man, woman, boy, girl who loves Christ and follows him, one of the greatest dangers is any sense of superiority or pride.
So here is a warning. It is a terrible thing, it becomes a settled condition and a key feature of a person. Seek patience, seek appreciation of others, know our own deficiencies and keep them in our mind. Recognise your need of other people, value other people, promote humility. That is what we all have to do constantly. As soon as a critical spirit, and pride, and hasty judgement get into us, they will run away with us.
So here is a warning. It is as though Solomon pauses here and he has been talking about intelligent sanctification. He has been talking about setting watches. And then he seems to interrupt himself and say – and whatever you do, be careful you do not let pride or superiority in any shape or form start to grow or get hold of you. Never stop watching out for that.
