Proverbs 21:30

The general idea of this verse is: do not fight with God; you will not succeed. Even if the whole creation were to rebel against him, he would overcome them. Even Satan with all his cunning and intelligence, together with the host of angels that have joined forces with him; they have no prospect of success. They are being played every step of the way, and the final outcome was determined even before they made their first step of rebellion against God. He has infinite resources on his side. He has infinite wisdom, infinite understanding, and infinite counsel to enforce his righteous government and to protect his own glory. This is clearly relevant to any who would take up arms against the Lord, and ought to have been considered by the devil and his angels before they took that step from which they could not turn back. It ought to be considered by every unbelieving man and woman, so that they turn from their sin and come to God for the pardon which he offers freely to all. It should also be considered by the believer who is tempted to try to cheat the Lord by cutting corners in his sanctification and proceeding half-heartedly, or with hypocrisy in his heart. All sin is an act of war against God.Sanctification is a process of cooperating with the Lord, for we depend on him to help us. Immediately after conversion the newly born Christian is launched into a spiritual war which will last for the rest of his earthly life. In many respects he is out of his depth for his enemies are more subtle than he understands, more determined, more ready to persist, and more powerful. He cannot hope to succeed against them unless the Lord is on his side. Nevertheless, the devil constantly holds out the possibility of returning to sin and reverting to what he was before. This cannot be done without deceiving the Lord, and therefore the Christian should consider what it is to make God his enemy all over again.
