Solomon loves highly graphic images. The description here is of an unfaithful woman who lures and ensnares her victims with sweet solicitous words.
None of the pleasures of sin are any compensation for the loss of God’s favour. If we are aware that we have fallen in temptation, we need to desperately seek God’s help to extract ourselves from it. We need to start seeing our fall into temptation, not as the source of pleasure, but as the evidence of God’s abhorrence of us. Who can afford to make their Lord their enemy? Who can successfully take up arms against him? Let us come to our senses and repent urgently. We are to have a horror of departing from integrity.
