The subject is still strife and the kind of behaviour that creates conflict between people. The illustration is extreme, and the behaviour being illustrated is extremely bizarre, and yet the kind of cruel manipulation involved is not so uncommon.
We see this type of behaviour particularly in some children, in a school setting. Children can be very cruel in this respect, very uninhibited in their behaviour, especially in the case of the school bully. The unpleasantness of man’s fallen nature can come out early in life, especially in an environment where there is little proper adult supervision. ‘I was only joking’ is frequently the reply when challenged about some cruelty. This shows an unwillingness to be accountable or to face up to the consequences. Let us be careful to think about the effect of all we do on others and never to treat people as there for our entertainment. Christians should love one another and love never treats another in a way that makes them feel small or uncomfortable.
