Envy and anger form a pair in that both have an enormous capacity to do evil. But if wrath and anger have a way of searching out how to do harm and cause the maximum hurt, there is something extra about envy that makes it even more troubling.
Here is another case where the Christian takes to prayer. This can give calm assurance even in a situation where our enemies seem to have all the advantages. We cannot see what they are planning to do, but our strength is in the Lord who sees into their very hearts and is able with overwhelming skill to blunt their weapons and frustrate their designs. Faith is able to reach the point of peace though greatly outnumbered. This was the confidence of David when his enemies surrounded him (Psalm 23:5 ;27:12; 37:12-13).
