Solomon returns now to the matter of how the believer is to cope with a fallen world in which he will inevitably encounter all kinds of evil and to which he must learn to respond in a sanctified way. How should we interact with the world and what are the dangers that we need to be aware of, for the world is undoubtedly a realm of peril to us with many snares which press close upon us.
God’s people must wait for the revelation of Christ’s kingdom and not give way to revenge. Instead they willingly forgive and align themselves with God’s mercy, hoping constantly for the repentance of the wicked before it is too late. When they meet with anger, they do not fear man who can only do a limited and temporary amount of harm with his anger, but they remember the Lord who can cast into hell where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.
