A man’s pride aims at self-exaltation and is not satisfied with anything less. Pride cannot bear to remain unfulfilled, unnoticed, unknown.
The temptation to imitate the worldling and to exalt self must be resisted by the believer. This becomes easier when we consider where pride leads, bringing downfall certainly at the judgment seat of Christ, and sometimes even sooner. The believer is ready to wait for his good things in the world to come, but the unbeliever wants all things now in this life.
All Christian virtues are consistent with each other and belong together. They mutually strengthen each other so that faith fosters humility, and humility produces thankfulness, and thankfulness brings forth sincere praise to God. How wisely God has created all things and especially all things that belong to the spiritual realm.
