Every man senses his vulnerability in this life for although mankind has been given certain strengths by the Lord, they are not so great that he can provide for all his needs, cope with all adversities, or overcome all his enemies. He knows that he is weak and dependent and that he does not have complete control over his world and the circumstances of life.
This world will not go on forever and the Christian longs for the day when he will be released from the presence of evil. How safe God’s children are in heaven. What can harm them there? But even now we are taught by Scripture as possessing the same security. ‘For’, says Paul, ‘I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Romans 8:38-39). The antidote to the fear of man is as Lawson says to trust in the Lord. That trust drives out the fear of man and set us free from it.
