This proverb shows us another aspect of the mind-set which every Christian must have, a vital attitude to enable us to pass through this world of trouble and sin on our journey to heaven. Many are too greatly impressed by the ability of the rulers and authorities in this world and their apparent power to promote or demote, and so they appeal to them for help in facing the problems of life.
The believer may not understand all that happens to him in this life, or why the Lord allows each trial, but it is great consolation for him to have the invisible arm of the Lord on his side working for his good and turning every trouble to his advantage. He avoids the inevitable and heart-breaking disappointment of being let down when the great ones of this world fail him. Our responsibility is to obey the Lord and to leave in his loving hands all those things which are beyond our control. He will show us the effect of all his providences when we pass from the realm of faith to the realm of sight.
