The word ‘spider’ occurs only here in Scripture. Some say the correct translation is ‘lizard’ or ‘gecko’.
Yes, wisdom brings nobodies into the presence of kings, even the King of heaven. Wisdom teaches us what we are and we know we are utterly unqualified to come before God on high. Nevertheless, we hear the invitation to come, and we respond and lay hold on eternal life and will not let go until God blesses us. Like Peter who saw an opportunity and asked that he would come to Christ on the water, we see that God has made the impossible to be possible. We cry out for a blessing from God which we know we do not deserve, but which we see that grace has placed within our reach. We therefore dare to hope that God will give it to us. In this way, wisdom brings us near to God and we, who deserve to be cast into hell, are found in the palace of the King of kings, not simply as creatures clinging to the wall, but as his sons and daughters adopted for ever into his family. There must be a determined seeking after God as we see that his blessing is something that we cannot live without.
