She is an unfailing helpmeet to her husband, just as God intends. She does not tire of pleasing him but studies how she how best she can assist in all his work and projects, and it is her delight to do so. Their love does not wane but develops and matures over the years as they grow and learn together, so that the help she gives is not a burden but a joy to her. Only the Lord can do this for it is too hard for the carnal heart. The natural rebellion of the heart is inclined to make such service seem onerous and a cause of resentment. She knows his desires and purpose and if they are good, she does not work against them. She does not seek to take first place, but accepts the role God has given her, a role in which she can make an enormous contribution to their joint effort for the Lord. She does not speak behind his back or betray him, for she is of one mind with her husband in all that he does. At times she corrects him and he accepts her correction, for before God they are equals, and the roles assigned to them in marriage are only for this life and not for the world to come where all such distinctions will be removed.Her help is not a flash in the pan, but it lasts and grows stronger. It is more than a passion which quickly fades. The early state of being in love is not replaced by grumbling and quarrelling, but love develops and appreciates more and more in each other as they make discoveries about each other’s character. They mould each other and as a unit achieve much more than they could as two distinct individuals. They rejoice in the long years they have spent together if that is what the Lord gives them, and find new ways to care for each other even into old age.
