In spite of her charity to others and her care of the poor, she does not neglect her own appearance, but prepares herself adequate clothing to be able to present herself honourably beside her husband. This is not about vanity, but is a recognition that the outward form matters and communicates a message. The message she wishes to communicate is not one of ostentation, but of order, cleanliness, and tidiness. She is not trying to excel compared to others or to show off, and is ready to accept simplicity and avoidance of over-elaborate style, but she will not allow that she has given no attention to her own appearance. The word tapestry in the KJV is excessive, for the Hebrew simply says coverings, although they might well be decorated or embroidered to make them more attractive. There is room for different styles and tastes and expression of individuality, but always with modesty and humility.
