Proverbs 31:23
Comments
Husband and wife bring honour on each other and are a credit to each other. Together they do more than they could do apart, as individuals. He sits in the gate among the elders to judge matters that arise in the community and to discuss its government. But when he joins the elders, he is known as the husband of the virtuous woman, and not only in his own right. People associate them together and know that they improve one another by their joint wisdom. Marriage is a relationship of mutual improvement and that process goes on life long. They experience the different ages of life together and face together its trials and its hurdles. They are honoured for their close working together in harmony, and above all for their devotion to the Lord and hope and trust in Christ. All that they do is done for him and he is Lord over both of them in the temporary institution of marriage as long as they remain in this life together. He speaks well of her and she speaks well of him and their speech is genuine. They do not divulge intimate issues that are shared between them with any third party, but they do good to each other all their days on earth.
