Proverbs 31:24
Comments
She is aware of the family finances and is ever looking for ways to contribute to them. Apart from her many other roles, she sees herself as in business with her husband. She finds ways to be productive and makes items which she knows will be sought after by the merchants. It is all done on a small cottage industry scale, but it is essential to the survival and flourishing of the family, providing against possibly hard times to come in the future. We have already read of her taking the raw materials – wool and flax – and preparing yarn from them which she would have turned into cloth on the loom. She might have been involved at every step in the process, and certainly the woman of those days needed a variety of skills that people do not possess today. She makes the most out of what is available, and at the same time she is training up her children by her example, and no doubt passing on her skills.
