Proverbs 31:26 Commentary and Bible Study

She is a source of wisdom to her family and to outsiders. Her children come with their problems and they receive solutions which prepare them to make their own decisions in adult life, and which are consistent with the word of God, for the counsel she gives is not made-up, not her own, but the counsel she has learned through obedience to the Lord. But those outside the family also come to her – young women and wives, those who face hardship from poverty, from mistreatment, as well as those whose errors have brought them into difficulty; she is a problem solver and gives practical help with all her advice. When those who are bruised by life come to her, they receive practical help also, so that they know she truly cares for them in their plight, and is willing to make a difference at cost to herself. Kindness opens doors, and help that has compassion behind it creates trust, and trust can be the basis from which searching and firm things can be said, and received because they are known to be said with grace. The giving of help may also require reproof for she sees that they have brought discipline on themselves and unless there is repentance, they will continue to face the same discipline in the future.
