In this verse there begins an illustration of a journey, and this illustration includes some characters we have seen before, and Solomon keeps doing this. He will often begin a new illustration, and he will impart into it some characters that he has used in a previous illustration.
Is somebody reading this, and you are trying to follow the Christian life and love the Lord, while at the same time, being 50% or 40% or 20% even 5% a worldling. Solomon warns us that it cannot he done. These are completely opposite lifestyles. The lifestyle of the worldling, the atheist, the unbeliever, is completely contrary to what God requires of his people. Avoid it, which implies, by a long way. ‘Pass not by it’ – do not be tempted to see what they are up to. ‘Turn from it’ – which implies if you accidently or mistakenly venture down one of their routes, even a small way, get out of it quickly. Take the distant route.
