Look at the two key words, ‘Attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.’ The Hebrew is very interesting.
You cannot come to Christ, you cannot seek salvation, you cannot find the Lord, unless you are prepared to shut everything else out. You cannot say, Lord, I like the sound of what I hear, I would like my sins forgiven, I would like a place in heaven, I would like a new life. But if you do not mind, I want to carry on with all my worldly ambitions and pursuits and pleasures at the same time. You cannot do that. When you come to hear God, you listen to him, ready to obey him, rather than anything else.
