I have known people who have said, ‘I have got some system and discipline and order into my life at last. I am going to attend the house of God and I am going to take up Christian service and I am going to do this and this and this; and at home I am going to do such and such a thing’, but four weeks later they have disappeared, for another six weeks.
Having determined these things, wisdom requires objectives, thoughtfulness and consistency. You will never be wise, I will never be wise unless we stick to things consistently. We must become people who stand by our decisions and our thinking and our principles. Without those three last things, the room of the heart will be in such a hopeless muddle and the furniture in so many different places from week to week, that wisdom will never come in. So we are being prepared to understand the kind of person we need to be in order to grow in insight, and depth and wisdom. May God help us in these things.
