‘Forsake her not’, and the Hebrew is ‘loosen away not from her’. Well, how would you do that? It is not forsake here in the sense of suddenly discard her.
And this is the application of this picture of salvation. We come to Christ, we seek him, we find him, the word of God is everything to us, living for the Lord is everything to us, and the result is Christ – that wisdom that we receive – keeps us and protects us, and watches over us, and blesses our lives, as illustrated by the tender bride. Also the illustration suggests to us that having found salvation, and having committed our lives to salvation, this being the most important thing to us, then we get back great love and affection. It is the love of the Lord, and it is illustrated here in the affection of the tender bride.
