Proverbs 5:11

You see the miserable picture. The once prosperous young man with everything ahead of him has lost everything, happiness, hope, family, wife, children, and homestead. Now he is emaciated and worn and old and discarded, and a kept man. That is what has happened to him. And all this is intended as a picture of what happens to us when we give ourselves to this world instead of the Lord. The world takes everything like a cruel heartless adulteress. It will take our gifts, it will take our powers, it will take our souls, and then we will be all washed up at the end. We have no relationship with God, we have forfeited everything precious, and here we are as we grow old at the end of life's journey, and it has been a turbulent life, with some happiness, but with many, many sorrows, many trials, and many troubles. So that is the picture language of the treachery of this present world, and the destitution to which it leads.
