Proverbs 5:21

Never forget this: God sees all that you do. God must be your Judge if you will not let him be your Saviour. He marks every offence, every rejection of himself. This is what it says in verse 21, ‘For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.’ That word 'pondereth' is very deep. The Hebrew means 'weighs'. It indicates this, that when the Lord reflects upon, ponders and weighs the state of my heart as one of his children, he does so by looking at the way I entertain myself at my pleasure, my recreation. The Lord evaluates our hearts by our pleasures. That is literally what it says. In the context of what we enjoy, who we go with, what we go after, the Lord says, ‘For the ways of a man (his recreational life) are before the eyes of the Lord and on that basis he weighs, ponders, evaluates all his goings.’ So our relaxation and our pleasures are the great indication of the state of our hearts, the great give-away.
Application
Let us suppose there is a man or a woman, a member of the household of God, under stress perhaps in business, and requires a little relaxation, a little diversion. A lot of things are legitimate. But when he or she is under pressure or in need of refreshment, well you can count on that person never being present weeknight, never seeking any pleasure in fellowship, never telephoning or visiting a Christian friend, never trying to get some comfort and help. Oh no, that person will be racing about from one worldly amusement to another, will be taking refuge in things which are completely divorced from the house of God.
