What a picture of what happens to us if we are so foolish as to reject spiritual things, and put off seeking the Lord. Suddenly life is gone; suddenly you have no chance at all, you stand before God, and that is it.
If we are truly converted, and have found the Lord, we have a guide, we have an overseer, we have a ruler. We are glad to have him, we are glad that he is our King, and he is our Saviour, and he is our Lord. We are ruled by his word, and the Holy Spirit is within us, and we have a conscience. We have so many privileges. Are we sleeping away the years of our spiritual lives, saved, but asleep, no service for the Lord? Think of the ant. Is it not a glorious little picture? The ant covers great distances for such a little creature with tiny legs. The ant surmounts all kinds of obstacles, and as a member of the colony is a wonderful co-operator. I wonder what one ant could do, but there is never one ant, there is always a load of ants, and they can demolish and consume all manner of things. What a picture for the people of God. Are you even a saved sleeper, having no service for him, no fruit for him, no commitment for him? Think of the ants: they can cover so much ground, and in co-operation with each other, the people of God can do so much by the power of God.
