Proverbs 6:19

Already Solomon has touched upon dishonesty, but he comes back here to a false witness, one who is called to testify, who is dishonest in some court case or disagreement, or he accepts a bribe. But it covers the case where because that person is a friend of mine, I side with him when he ought to be reproved; I side with him simply because I get something out of it. That is a kind of dishonesty, and it frustrates justice.
Application
Sometimes you find this in churches. People are well meaning. They may have been very friendly towards another person, and that person may do something very wrong, and very dishonouring to the Lord, and because there is a friendship, the friend identifies with them, protects them, sticks up for them. And then of course you are frustrating the very hand of God. So Solomon is concerned about honesty in these things too.
