‘When thou goest, it shall lead thee.’ Along life's journey, if you keep those two rules, God's law will ever be in your heart, and it will challenge you. ‘When thou sleepest, it shall keep thee.’ God will guard you even when you are not awake and looking out for yourself. He will see what enemies would do to you and prevent them from doing you any permanent harm. When you are asleep, your various bodily activities are going on automatically, you breathe and you do everything you do, completely automatically; you do not have to think about it. Everything just ticks along very nicely by itself, and you wake up and you are still alive and you are perfectly refreshed, and everything has kept going. You keep these two rules and not only will the law of God consciously guide you in your mind, but it will keep you in many automatic things. There are many things where you will not even know that you have withstood a temptation, because the law of God in you, has so influenced you, that much of the time you have automatically not sinned. There is a great fight against sin, but so wonderful is the law of God that there are a lot of things, which because we are Christians and we love God's ways and these values are in our heart, we are automatically delivered from.‘When thou awakest, it shall talk with thee’, which means you will learn to think more and more as a Christian, because we are being instructed in the Lord’s school. What is the law of God, what are God's requirements, how should I conduct myself in this situation, in that situation? I want to learn, and by the grace of God our thinking processes are increasingly in tune with God's standards and God's law. Is it not wonderful? Let us grow in grace; let us keep that rule; let us bind it about our hearts, always applying it to our plans and our desires. Remember you are under scrutiny and you are watched, and more and more you will think like a Christian.
