This sin will impoverish us. By yielding to it a man in effect reduces himself to no more than a crust of bread, because that is all he is worth in her estimation. His foolishness is great because by his sin he agrees with her evaluation of him. Let him not vainly think that he can influence her to have any real affection for him. This woman is as hard as nails. She needs to eat each day doesn’t she, and how is she going to do so unless she earns her living? To her, he is just the means by which she has enough food on the table. Yes, he is willing to have her regard him in this way for what he can get out of her, but tragically that is also what he has become, for no sin leaves a man unchanged.Does he think that she will prey upon his body only? Ah, he is sadly mistaken. If you ask him, he will agree with you: ‘Yes of course she is using me, but I am using her.’ But what he doesn’t see is what he has done to his soul. His soul is being devoured by sin, devoured by her. And she preys on him, she cares nothing about his eternal soul. To her, he is a disposable item to be cast aside once it has served its purpose. She is not passive in this, but uses many skills to capture him, while at the same time letting him think that he is in control.
